Cornish Clotted Cream
With an unmistakable golden crust and a luxuriously rich flavour, you simply can’t beat our award-winning Trewithen Dairy Cornish Clotted Cream. Made with milk from local Cornish herds, it’s perfect for spooning onto jam-laden scones or stirring into sauces for a creamy depth of flavour – delicious!
Deliciously Creamy
Trewithen’s irresistible clotted cream is made by heating whole cow’s milk using water baths and then leaving it in shallow pans to cool slowly. During this time, the cream content rises to the surface and forms “clots” hence the name. The proper Cornish way to enjoy a cream tea is to break the scone with your hands, before spreading each side with a layer of jam followed by a generous dollop of Cornish Clotted Cream. The jam prevents the warm scone from melting the cream!

Authentically cornish
Much like the mighty Cornish Pasty PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status is crucial for our Cornish Clotted Cream, ensuring authenticity and quality. It guarantees the cream is traditionally made in Cornwall, with milk from our local herds, preserving its unique texture and taste. This distinction not only celebrates our heritage but also assures customers they’re enjoying a genuine, premium product.
Fun fact: In the early days Bill and Rachel Clarke had their own herd. They would bottle the milk once the children were in bed and deliver it early the next morning. They cooked the clotted cream themselves, in open trays and potted it by hand.

Trew Cornish Dairy
At Trewithen Dairy, we and our farmers are passionate about the health and welfare of the cows that produce the essential ingredient in all our great tasting dairy products – high quality, Cornish milk. The dairy farms that are contracted to supply Trewithen are all located within 25 miles of the dairy and we take great pride in the fact that we know each one of our farmers personally.
Although no two Trewithen Dairy farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry. We are caretakers of the land; we and our farmers recognise the need to look after the environment for future generations.

FAQs
Learn more about our Trewithen standards and delicious products.
How do you make Cornish clotted cream?
We make our clotted cream very carefully, in line with the requirements of its Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. We heat our Cornish cream very slowly at a low temperature until we have a generous, golden crust.
Is it jam or cream first?
The Cornish way to enjoy a cream tea is to break the scone with your hands, before spreading each side with a layer of jam followed by a generous dollop of Cornish clotted cream. The jam prevents the warm scone from melting the cream!
What are the Trewithen trew farming standards?
Companies now queue up to tell you what they believe. But let us tell you what we actually do. We look after the land and it’s long-term health, we tread as lightly as we can, we farm for the future; we and all our dairy farmers are signed up to, and happy to be judged by, these more than rigorous benchmarks. Trew farming is better farming, with higher standards. As standard.
How long does clotted cream last?
Always check the use by date on the pack and consume within three days of opening.
