Our Dairy Farmers

Our farmers are across the heart of Cornwall within a 25 mile radius of the Dairy. The area around us takes in some of the most beautiful countryside Cornwall has to offer, including Bodmin Moor to the north, Fowey Estuary to the south, Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and Goss Moor Nature Reserve to the west.

Within this area are stunning places such as the Glynn Valley, Cardinham Woods, Restormel Castle, Lostwithiel, Lerryn, the Eden Project, Brown Willy, Rough Tor and the magnificent Golitha Falls. Our Farmers are dotted across these areas of natural beauty and have some of the best farming views the country has to offer.

How we work with farmers

All our farmers are committed to working together to adopt and share best practice in relation to dairy farming and animal health, welfare & husbandry. This includes participation at a regular programme of best practice dairy farming workshops funded by Trewithen Dairy. At these regular meetings, our farmers discuss issues affecting them and their dairy enterprises, share ideas and best practice, and seek to identify ways to drive improvements in animal health and welfare. We have a dedicated Farm Liaison Manager, John Perry, who works daily with the farmers ensuring their needs are met and we have the highest quality of milk arriving to the daily. Happy farmers make for happy cows.

25 mile radius

The dairy farms that are contracted to supply Trewithen are all located within 25 miles of the dairy and we take great pride in the fact that we know each one of our farmers personally.

Although no two Trewithen Dairy farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry.

From Trewithen’s point of view, we share our farmers’ commitment to continuous improvement in the area of animal health and welfare. As such, we are determined to work with and support them, to ensure that their on-farm practices and performance levels meet the expectations of our customers and ultimately those who consume our products. In doing so, we believe this will generate better and more sustainable supply chains; enhance customer & consumer loyalty and ultimately allow us to continue to pay our farmers a premium price for their milk.

We call this approach to animal health and welfare Trew Farming – it’s what we and our farmers believe in and do every day of the year.

Peter & Sheila Cox, Mearfield Farm

Peter is a fourth generation farmer working in partnership with his wife Sheila and parents Briand and Patricia. They farm around 200 acres in glorious South East Cornwall, with the farm producing

Graham, Andrew & Jack Kent, Polventon Farm

Polventon Farm is a 480 acre tenanted dairy and beef farm.The farm has been in the family for four generations, and brothers, Graham and Andrew, together with Andrew’s son Jack, are continuing the family line.

Chris Tucker, Arrallas Farm

Chris is a fourth-generation dairy farmer, his family have been Duchy of Cornwall tenants since 1871. He farms in partnership with his wife Tory at Arrallas, on the edge of a beautiful, wooded valley near Ladock, Truro.

Simon & Alison Ward, Trevorder Farm

Simon and Alison Ward are first generation farmers having transitioned from managing a dairy farm in Dorset to gaining the tenancy of Trevorder Farm just outside of Wadebridge. They have 360 cows based at Trevorder Farm which consists of 260 acres plus another 220 acres near the North Cornwall coast.

The Whell family, Leyonne Farm

Martin and Bridget live at Leyonne, a farm near Fowey, where they manage a milking herd of 400 cows. They are part of a family partnership with Hedley and Barbara, Martin’s parents who live near Luxulyan and manage a herd of 230 cows. Much to their pride, both their daughters, Beth and Abi are currently working with them with a view to committing to the business for the future.

Matthew Rowe, Tredinnick Farm

Matthew is a 4th generation farmer on the 900 acre dairy and beef farm at Tredinnick, situated less than 20 minutes from Trewithen, along the Glynn Valley on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Matthew’s father is still very much involved in the daily running of the farm along with his son Andrew who is now 23 and very enthusiastic when looking after the animal husbandry and welfare.

JJ & Kiki Wilcocks, Tregleath Farm

JJ is a third generation dairy farmer, and has farmed at Tregleath for the past 35 years and the last 20 in partnership with his wife Kiki. Tregleath is located between Bodmin and Wadebridge on the edge of the Camel Valley. They are currently milking 200 cows throughout the year, calving them outdoors on ‘hay’ grass in the late summer and early autumn.
