Consumers’ Trust In Farmers At Six-Year High

Close up of cow grazing

A recent AHDB consumer trust study shows that all agricultural sectors, including dairy, have seen increased consumer positivity since 2019.

76% of UK adults now view farming as a trustworthy profession, on par with doctors and ahead of teachers and nutritionists. The scores collected in August 2024 indicate the highest level of consumer positivity towards British agriculture in the past 6 years – a win for farmers and the agricultural supply chain as a whole.

Consumers are also feeling more informed about food origin and production, with 70% stating they have a good understanding of where the food they eat comes from. While there are still areas for improvement, the overall trend indicates growing consumer appreciation for British agriculture and farmers.

The report shows that more consumers than ever before believe farmers are experts in their field, care about people, deliver on promises and care about animals and the planet vs other food-related professions. And we have to say that we wholeheartedly agree!

Recognising the Value of Farmers

At Trewithen Dairy, we’re thrilled to see a renewed appreciation for farming as one of the most trusted professions. In recent years, consumers have developed a deeper interest in understanding where their food comes from and how it’s made. The hard work, transparency, and commitment to animal welfare that farmers demonstrate are gaining visibility and respect. Additionally, sustainable farming practices that focus on the environment and the community’s health have resonated strongly with people who want to support ethical and eco-conscious industries. For us here in Cornwall, this shift means more customers who truly value our dedication to producing high-quality, local dairy products with care and integrity.

Looking to the Future

Farmers have a unique opportunity to build on this newfound trust and interest in farming by connecting directly with consumers. By sharing stories of their daily work and commitment to animal welfare, farmers can foster stronger relationships with their communities and increase transparency around their operations.

At Trewithen Dairy, we and our farmers are passionate about the health and welfare of the cows that produce the essential ingredient in all our great-tasting dairy products – high-quality, Cornish dairy. With consumers more eager than ever to support ethical and local food sources, farmers have an opportunity to grow their businesses while fostering a sense of shared responsibility and pride in their communities.

As customer demand for our dairy grows, so does our need for more of the best Cornish dairy. If you’d like to be a Trewithen Dairy farmer (or even if you’re just curious)  fill in this form and get in touch. We’re a family business used to dealing with other family businesses, and we know that a personal relationship and the ability to speak directly to us is vital for success and satisfaction.
