Why milk is the key to a healthy, balanced lifestyle

Milky New Year (1)

As we make a healthy start to the new decade, what delicious post-exercise drink should we be thinking about?

Yes, of course. Milk!

It goes without saying that, at Trewithen Dairy, we are huge champions of milk, and for good reason. Milk is brimming with protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, all of which are vitally important when leading a healthy lifestyle. Protein-rich diets are particularly beneficial when we’re trying to lose weight or gain lean muscle.

When milk is consumed within half an hour of exercise, the carbohydrates are transported to your muscles to aid repair and reduce fatigue and soreness. Vitamin A promotes healthy tissue. Vitamin D helps our bodies utilise minerals such as calcium and phosphorus. The calcium, magnesium and potassium found in milk help maintain strong bones.

We can’t dismiss the competition; energy drinks, protein shakes, and even BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids) are all of course widely consumed during or post-exercise.

However, compared to these other options, milk is far cheaper and more widely available than these pricey, branded and cleverly-marketed alternatives. Milk stays in your system for much longer as its vitamins and minerals are absorbed into the bloodstream more gradually over time, therefore aiding a better and more balanced recovery.

When you drink Trewithen Dairy Cornish Milk, you know exactly where it is coming from. It is full of natural goodness, from happy and healthy Cornish cows, making it an environmentally and ethically conscious choice too.

But don’t just take our word for it, renowned TV Doctor Michael Mosely recently wrote about why he’s switching back to full-fat milk and implores that you do the same. You can read the full article here.
